FundBetter is committed to making www.fundbetter.com usable for as many people as possible, including people who browse with screen readers, keyboard navigation, screen magnification, speech recognition, or other assistive technology. Applying for funding should not be harder because of a disability.
Accessibility Statement
Last updated: August 12, 2026
Our commitment
We treat accessibility as part of building and maintaining the site rather than a one-time project. As we add pages, publish guides, and change our application flow, we review that work with accessibility in mind, and we fix issues as we find them or as they are reported to us.
Standards we work toward
FundBetter works to align www.fundbetter.com with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA. These guidelines, published by the World Wide Web Consortium, explain how to make web content more accessible to people with visual, auditory, physical, speech, cognitive, language, learning, and neurological disabilities.
Working toward a standard is not the same as being certified against it. We do not claim that every page currently meets every WCAG 2.1 Level AA criterion, and we describe our known limitations below rather than leaving them unsaid.
What we have built into the site
Ongoing measures include:
- Semantic page structure with a single main heading per page and a logical heading order, so assistive technology can navigate the content.
- Text alternatives for meaningful images, and decorative graphics marked so screen readers skip them.
- Keyboard access to interactive elements, with a visible focus outline so you can see where you are on the page.
- Form fields with associated labels, required fields marked in text rather than by color alone, and validation messages written in plain language.
- Color choices checked for contrast against our background colors, and information never conveyed by color alone.
- Support for reduced-motion preferences, so animation is minimized when your device requests it.
- Responsive layouts that remain usable when the page is zoomed or viewed on a small screen.
Accessibility widget
FundBetter uses an accessibility widget from UserWay, available from every page on the site. It offers adjustments such as larger text, increased contrast, link highlighting, a readable font, and a reading guide.
To keep pages loading quickly on mobile connections, the widget is loaded shortly after the page becomes interactive rather than before the page appears. If you use the site with assistive technology and would prefer it available sooner, tell us and we will look at the trade-off again.
We want to be straightforward about what a widget can and cannot do: an overlay of this kind is a helpful set of adjustments, not a substitute for an accessible underlying site. We do not rely on it as our accessibility strategy.
Known limitations
Despite our efforts, some content may not yet be fully accessible:
- Documents and offer paperwork produced by third-party funding partners are outside our control, and their accessibility varies.
- Our online application is completed on a separate platform operated by a partner, so parts of that experience are not built by us.
- Content embedded from third parties, and older pages we have not yet revisited, may not meet the standard we apply to new work.
Where a part of the site is not accessible to you, we will provide the same information or complete the same task with you another way. Call us and a funding advisor will help you directly, including taking an application over the phone.
Tell us about a problem
If you have trouble using any part of www.fundbetter.com, or you use assistive technology and something is not working, we want to hear about it. Reports from people using the site are the fastest way for us to find and fix real problems.
Please include the page address, what you were trying to do, and the browser and assistive technology you were using, so we can reproduce the issue.
