Look at total cost, not just the monthly payment

Your payment shows what you'll need to cover each month. Total repayment shows how much you'll pay over the full term.

Stretch the term and your payment drops while your total cost climbs. $50,000 over 12 months costs about $1,944 in interest. The same loan over 36 months cuts the monthly payment by roughly two thirds and nearly triples the interest.

Open the payment schedule above to see how each payment is split between principal and interest over time. Paying an amortizing loan down early can reduce the interest you'd have owed, though not every product works that way, so ask about early payoff terms before you sign.

How the math works

You don't need the formula to use our business loan calculator, but we've included it for anyone who wants to see how the estimate is calculated. The payment is the amount borrowed multiplied by the periodic interest rate, divided by one minus one plus that rate raised to the negative number of payments. The periodic rate is the annual rate divided by how many payments you make a year, so 7.1% works out to about 0.59% a month or 0.14% a week.

Why we start you at 7.1%

Our business loan calculator opens with a sample 7.1% interest rate. That's roughly what banks were charging small businesses at the start of 2026, according to the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City's Small Business Lending Survey, which put median rates on new small business term loans between 6.7% and 7.1%.

It's a sample, not a quote, and your own rate will be different. If you've already been quoted a rate, put that number in instead.

Been quoted a factor rate instead?

If you're looking at a merchant cash advance or revenue-based funding, you've probably been given a factor rate rather than an interest rate. Those work differently, and our calculator can't price them.

A 1.35 factor on $50,000 means $67,500 in total repayment. Unlike interest, the factor itself doesn't build up over time, so clearing it early usually costs the same dollars, just sooner. Some providers will discount an early payoff, but it isn't automatic.

You can't compare a 1.35 factor rate directly with a 7.1% interest rate, because they measure cost differently. Ask each lender for the total repayment amount and the payment schedule, and compare those.

What your actual offer depends on

Our calculator gives you an estimate based on the numbers you enter. It doesn't predict the rate or terms you'll qualify for, because those depend on your revenue, how long you've been in business and your credit. As a general starting point, FundBetter works with businesses with a 500+ personal credit score, $15,000+ in monthly revenue and at least six months in business. Lenders may consider several other factors as well.

Our calculator is built for financing that carries an interest rate and a fixed repayment schedule. Lines of credit, merchant cash advances and some short-term products are priced differently, so check how yours is structured before you compare it here. We offer eight types of business financing and can help you compare the options available to your business.

Questions about business loan payments

How is a business loan payment calculated?

Four things set your payment: how much you borrow, the interest rate, how long you have to repay it, and whether you pay monthly or weekly. Enter those in our business loan calculator and you'll get your estimated payment, total repayment and total interest.

What is the monthly payment on a $50,000 business loan?

At 7.1% over 12 months the payment is $4,328.64 a month, with $51,944 repaid in total and $1,944 of that being interest. Change the rate or term in our calculator to match what you've been quoted.

How does the loan term affect my payment?

A longer term lowers your monthly payment and raises what you pay in total, because interest accrues over more periods. The same $50,000 over 36 months instead of 12 cuts the payment by roughly two thirds and nearly triples the interest.

What's the difference between a factor rate and an interest rate?

Interest accrues on your balance over time. A factor rate sets the total up front, so a 1.35 factor on $50,000 means $67,500 repaid however long it takes. The two numbers can't be compared directly. Compare total repayment and the payment schedule instead.

Will this tell me what I'll be approved for?

No. Our business loan calculator gives you an estimate based on the numbers you enter. What you're actually offered depends on your revenue, how long you've been in business, your credit and which product fits. Checking your options with us takes a couple of minutes and uses a soft credit pull, so it won't affect your score.
